A new destination for tourists visiting Kanchenjunga's Southern Vesh Camp
Amir Rai and Manoj Basnet, the owners of 'Trek 8586', which is working to promote tourism in Kanchenjunga region, have found three lakes in Cheram region. They claimed that this can be a new and attractive destination for tourists who have reached the southern Vesh camp of Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world.
They visited this area in the beginning of 2025 (January 3), based on Google Maps, they found these lakes on a three and a half hour walk from Cheram and claimed that these lakes were not recorded before. They say that the area of the lake could not be ascertained due to complete freezing and lack of equipment. But they have published the picture of that lake. These lakes are above five thousand meters .
'There was a flood in the Kaveli river last month, it seems that one of the lakes from above burst at that time,' Rai said, 'One lake has burst into two, the other one is bigger .' The Yalung flows into the Sibuwa River. Sibuwa, which starts flowing from the glacier of South Wescamp in Kanchenjunga, reaches Hallok in Phattanglung Rural Municipality-6 Tapethok and merges with the Tamor River.
Rai said that since these lakes do not have a name, they have named the big one by their own company ``Trek 8586'' and the two lakes suspected to have split as ``Dajubhai Tal''.
Basnet and he claims that he worked as a brother in the company and named the brother in the sense that the brother discovered it. Kanchenjunga mountain climbers and tourists stay in Cheram. Cheram is at an altitude of 3,870 meters. Rai says that he searched for the lake with the aim of taking the tourists who live here to the nearest destination. He said that since the lakes of both places are attractive to see, foreigners can be taken there, but a footpath should be built.
"For now, we have returned with stones everywhere," he said. Sirijunga Rural Municipality-8 Yosthan in Yamfudin is reached from Cheram via Yalung. It is 900 meters above Yalung. As it is high and high altitude, it takes more time to go and less time to return .
Carrying packed food, hot water, black tea and biscuits, they also told that they walked on a frozen lake. From here you can see Mount Koktang, Nagarcha River, parts of Timbung Lake, parts of Panchthar, Ilam, Tehrathum and Taplejung districts. Rai says that the letters of the mountains of Western Mohada are attractive. They left at 11 am and returned to Cheram at 7 pm.
