The Koshi state government has formed a committee under the leadership of senior advocate Bharat Bahadur Thapa for the management of distressed cooperatives. The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Thursday formed the committee and determined its work, duties and rights.
Along with Thapa as the chairman of the committee, cooperative expert Dhanprasad Sivakoti, accounting expert Jeevan Kafle and branch officer of the ministry Ram Kumar Shrestha will be member secretaries. Spokesman of the state government and Minister of Internal Affairs and Law Revathiraman Bhandari said that one member from the Koshi Pradesh Cooperative Association will also be nominated in the committee.
According to the Ordinance-2081 issued by the provincial government, a legal provision has been made to form a management committee for asset management and liability payment of distressed cooperatives . There is a provision that the chairman of this committee will be appointed from a person with more than 10 years of experience in the field of law.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers has also decided to approve the procedure for agricultural loan interest subsidy, the Water and Sanitation Bill, the Forest Act Amendment Bill and the Environment Protection Act Amendment Bill in the Provincial Assembly, apart from the decision on cooperative management. In addition, the meeting also decided to amend the formation orders of Pathibhara area, Brihat Barah area, and Halesi Mahadevasthan Development Committee.
The government hopes that the formation of this management committee will help in the reformation and settlement of liabilities of distressed cooperatives.
