Two thousand 92 motorcycle accidents have occurred in Koshi province in five months.

Itahari-based Nepal Police Highway Safety and Traffic Management Office said that there were 3,498 vehicle accidents in the province from July to mid-November of the current financial year.

According to Rameshwar Twati, the information officer of the office, the highest number of motorcycle accidents occurred during that period, followed by tempo, jeep and car accidents.

"While the upgradation of the Asian Highway is underway on the East-West Highway, it seems that more motorcycle accidents have occurred due to the lack of zebra crossings and traffic signals", he explained the cause of the accident, saying, "There has been a lot of human loss due to careless driving of motorcycles at high speed."

One hundred and ninety-one people have died and three hundred and twenty-seven people have been seriously injured during that period.
