The Belybridge over the Kabeli River on the border of Taplejung and Panchthar is going to be moved to dry land. After the concrete bridge was put into operation in Kabeli last year, preparations have been made to put the Belybridge here on the dry land of the Fungling-Olangchungola-Tipatala Bhanjyang road section.
According to North-South (Subangkhola-Moolghat-Dobhan-Olangchungola) road project chief Singh Bahadur Bista, tenders are ready to be opened this week for moving the belay bridge. Bista said that permission has to be obtained from the regional office for this.
The office claims that after the construction of the bridge in Sukepani and Jongin in this financial year, it will be possible to operate the transport even in dry weather up to Tiptala Bhanjyang, the border with China. The Beili Bridge of Kabeli was built in the year 2056.
The foundation stone of the then Transport Minister Bal Bahadur Rai was laid in 2053 and the then Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala inaugurated it in 2056.
