The Chief Minister of Kosi State Government, Hikmat Kumar Karki, has said that due to the changing environment as well as the mother tongue, there is a need to learn English as well.
Inaugurating the Kosi Province Conference and Seminar of Nepal English Language Teachers Association (NELTA) in Damak, Jhapa today, Chief Minister Karki stressed that every community school should increase its capacity so that students can communicate in English as well as their mother tongue. He mentioned that it is important to learn the English language because it has received international recognition.
Chief Minister Karki said while recalling his school education, 'When we were in school, I knew English letters only in class five. Times have changed now. With the international recognition of the English language, communication can be done anywhere in the world. We have gone to different countries for Nepali education, employment, etc., so learning English has become necessary.'
He opined that only if linguistic knowledge and skills can be implemented correctly in practice, education suitable for the environment and conditions can be obtained. Chief Minister Karki expressed his belief that the interactions and debates held in these kinds of seminars and conferences will help in the teaching and learning of English language in the future.
President of Nelta Kosi Province Committee Gunaraj Nepal presided over the opening, former National President of Nelta and Professor Dr. Govindraj Bhattarai, Dean of Kathmandu University Faculty of Education Prof. Dr. Balchandra Luintel, Central President of Nelta Prof. Dr. Laxman Gyawali, Head of the Regional English Language Department of the American Embassy Roger of Cohen, from the UK Phonex Kenny, former president of NELTA associate professor Motikala Subba, associate professor of Kathmandu University Hemantraj Dahal and other personalities were present.
According to the organizer, around 500 English subject teachers from various schools, campuses and other educational institutions of Kosi Province participated in the conference, which will be held until Sunday.
According to the organizers, this kind of conference with discussion and interaction between national and international experts in the field of education, which started at the local Siddarth Boarding School, was held for the first time in Jhapa.
