Snow has fallen in the Timbung pond in the border area of Panchthar and Taplejung. Locals said that it snowed on Friday evening and Saturday morning.
Amir Rai, the owner of Red Panda Guest House in Timbung Pokhari, said that it snowed from the evening of October 2nd to the morning of the 3rd. "There is snow in Timbung Pokhari, Langur and Lakshmi Pokhari areas, in some places it has frozen up to one inch," he said.
Rai, who is also a tourism businessman, has posted pictures and videos of snow falling on Facebook and said, "It has snowed for the first time in the season in Timbung Pokhari area." Locals have said that there is a possibility of more snow as the weather is changing.
After the snowfall started, the journey of the tourists who were going to Kanchenjunga base camp through the Timbung pond has been affected.
The Timbung Pond area, located at an altitude of 4,350 meters, is famous from a religious and tourist point of view. Tourists from Sikkim and West Bengal of India come to visit here from May to October.
