The budget of Rs 35.39 billion 85.48 million brought by the Karnali Provincial Government for the fiscal year 2083/084 was passed by the Provincial Assembly with a majority on Friday after reaching a six-point agreement with the opposition NCP. The Provincial Assembly passed the appropriation bill after an agreement was reached not to implement controversial plans of ministers and programs named after leaders in the budget.
The opposition had opposed the budget presented by Finance Minister Rajiv Bikram Shah on Ashar 1, saying that plans were included against the division of work regulations, ministers had programs outside their scope of work, and budget was allocated to establish institutions in the name of leaders.
After that, the Provincial Assembly meeting was also affected. The path to passing the budget was opened after a six-point agreement was reached between the ruling party and the opposition on Friday. According to the agreement, plans of ministers included against the division of work regulations, institutions named after leaders, and controversial programs will not be implemented.
According to the approved budget, 8 billion 60 crore 45 lakh 56 thousand 924.31 rupees have been allocated for current expenditure and 20 billion 74 crore 67 lakh 12 thousand 955.31 rupees for capital expenditure. The remaining amount has been allocated for financial management and other headings.
