Two girls have drowned while swimming in the Tuni River in Birendranagar Municipality-10.
The deceased have been identified as Samjhana Thapa, 14, of Deepak Thapa, Pathantol, Birendranagar 10, and Kalpana Rawat, 12, of Man Bahadur Rawat.
The police reached the spot after the District Police Office, Surkhet, received information that both girls had drowned while swimming in the Tuni River on Saturday evening. ‘We rescued both the girls and took them to the Karnali Province Hospital, Kalagaun, for further treatment,’ said Police Inspector Shyam Prakash Yadav. ‘The doctors declared them dead shortly after reaching the hospital. We have started further investigation into the incident.’
