The second edition of the 'Karnali Girls' Conference' organized in Birendranagar ended on Sunday with the issuance of a 10-point declaration. The conference concluded that child marriage, gender discrimination, and Chhaupadi, among other evil practices, have become obstacles to the future of girls in Karnali. The conference has demanded that the provincial and local governments formulate and implement a strategy and action plan to end child marriage, and urge all three levels of government to enact laws to make menstruation dignified and safe. Similarly, Jyoti Katuwal, chairperson of the organizer Jyoti Foundation, said that the demand has been made to arrange menstrual restrooms in schools and community institutions and provide menstrual hygiene services and necessary materials. According to her, the Karnali provincial government and all 79 local levels have been demanded to run a special scholarship program for girls for higher education. The conference has issued a declaration demanding that all three levels of government build quality and inclusive physical infrastructure in community and institutional schools. The conference, organized since Saturday in coordination with the Ministry of Social Development of Karnali Province, featured separate discussions with girls from all 10 districts of Karnali under the title 'Daughters' Minds', while a panel discussion was held with experts, government officials, public representatives, and others.
