A corruption case has been filed against Narendra Bahadur Mahat, the principal of Ganesh Secondary School in Ranka, Tatopani Rural Municipality-1, Jumla, along with three others, on charges of embezzling scholarship money.

The Central Office of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a complaint on Monday against the school management committee chairman Til Prasad Bhattarai and the accounting assistant for embezzling the scholarship money received by the school in the fiscal year 2079/80.

On Chaitra 21, 2080, Principal Mahat distributed scholarship money to 83 students at the rate of Rs. 1,000 to students from grades 1 to 5 and Rs. 1,485 to 44 students at the rate of Rs. 23 to students from grades 6 to 8, totaling Rs. 1,48,350, and sent it to Tatopani Rural Municipality.

The Commission has stated that it has been confirmed that the scholarship amount received by the school was not distributed to the concerned girls and that the defendants conspired with each other to forge a false statement on 21 Asoj 2080 and prepared another false statement that the scholarship was distributed on 21 Chaitra 2080.

According to Suresh Neupane, spokesperson of the Commission, a charge sheet has been filed against them in the Special Court, Kathmandu on Monday, demanding a fine of Rs. 145,350 and imprisonment for the offense under Sub-section (1) of Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
