There have been 51 vehicle accidents in Surkhet in the past month. Four people have died in the accidents.
Three men and one woman are among the dead. Twenty-seven people were seriously injured and 56 were slightly injured in the accidents, according to the District Traffic Police Office, Surkhet.
The accidents involving 76 vehicles were found to have occurred due to traffic rule violations, said District Traffic Police Chief Inspector Rohit Kumar Shahi.
According to him, accidents are occurring due to traffic rule violations, overtaking, speeding, drunkenness, driver incompetence (without a driver's license), negligence, pedestrians crossing the road, mechanical malfunctions, overload, road and weather conditions, and quadrupeds.
The traffic police have taken action against 637 vehicles violating traffic rules in the month of Falgun. A revenue of Rs 584,000 has been collected from the action. According to the vehicle type, action was taken against 67 trucks and tankers, 48 buses and minibuses, 107 cars, jeeps, vans, 34 tractors, 275 motorcycles, tempos and 106 other vehicles.
According to him, the traffic police is actively implementing road safety traffic rules and public awareness programs, said Traffic Chief Shahi.
The traffic police has conducted 101 awareness programs related to road safety in a month. Similarly, a 1-minute program has also been conducted with drivers. The traffic police has reported that 6,663 drivers have benefited from this program, which was conducted 77 times. Similarly, 516 people have benefited from 8 programs targeting pedestrians and 1,754 people have benefited from 16 programs targeting organizations, said Traffic Police Chief Shahi. He said that various public awareness programs are being conducted to reduce accidents.
