Police have seized items including alcohol and rice from a jeep that was carrying the flag of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and two people have been arrested.
Police have taken the driver and one passenger of the jeep under control from Sallibazar, Bangad Kupinde Municipality-1, Salyan, on Monday morning. The driver of the jeep bearing number 24, Chandraprakash Budhathoki, a resident of Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-4, Karnali Province 02-001 Cha 0429, which was heading towards Khairagar with goods from Sallibazar, and the passenger, 37-year-old Mohan BC, were taken under control by the police.
The driver and the passenger were taken under control on suspicion that the jeep was carrying rice, cooking oil and alcohol cartons for election purposes, said Hem Bahadur KC, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Salyan. According to him, two 25-kg sacks of rice, seven cartons of liquor with the words "Goli Diamond" written on them, two cartons of Rockstar beer and three cartons of cooking oil have been recovered from the jeep.
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Municipal Chairman Lokendra Oli claimed that the goods loaded in the vehicle belonged to a local businessman. "It is the businessman's mistake to keep the goods in a vehicle that is running on a campaign trail," he said.
