18,000 security personnel to be deployed in Karnali for elections

Preparations are underway to deploy security personnel for the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on March 21.

There are 941 polling stations and 1,437 polling stations in ten districts. 18,528 security personnel have been deployed in 10 districts of the province. 

Although the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force are on standby, training for the election police is underway. According to the Karnali Provincial Police, 15,328 police officers, including the Nepal Police and the Election Police, have been deployed.

Provincial Police Spokesperson SSP Ram Prakash Shah said that there is still a shortage of 339 police officers across the province. Out of which 5,580 Nepal Police and 9,748 Election Police will be deployed. 

Similarly, the Armed Police Force has started deploying 3,200 police officers, including the Election Police. 2,200 Armed Police and 1,000 Election Police have been kept on standby. DIG Jayaram Sapkota said that 441 polling stations in Karnali are very sensitive. 

Out of 1,437 polling stations in Karnali, 301 are general and 651 are on the sensitive list. He said, "This time, we are preparing to place all the polling stations in government offices."
