Nine members of two families from Takura, Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality-2, Salyan, have died after a gas cylinder exploded in a fire.
The incident took place in a place called Arki in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India. A fire broke out in the shop while they were sleeping at night and the cylinders in the shop exploded.
Dhan Bahadur BK, 33, his wife Kavita BK, 32, daughters Radha BK, Renuka BK, son Rajan BK, and Kashiram BK, 47, Tika BK, 32, Anu BK, 12, and Kiran BK, 7, died in the incident, said relative Prem BK.
He said that the family of Dhan Bahadur BK and Kashiram BK were living in the room above the shop and the fire broke out on the night of the 27th when they returned from work and went to sleep. According to him, the bodies of all those who died when the cylinder exploded were so badly charred that they could not be identified.
After learning about the fire, he informed that his family of four, including Rajendra BK, Gangaram BK, and one other person, who were sleeping in another house nearby, managed to escape and escape. ‘A team of security personnel from Solan district of Himachal Pradesh is currently collecting the bodies. It has been difficult to collect them as everyone was injured in the cylinder explosion,’ he said.
He said that some families from Takura Basti, including the deceased’s family, had gone to Himachal Pradesh, India, two and a half years ago to work as laborers after the financial condition of the house became miserable and they had trouble earning two meals a day.
Siddhakumakh-2 Ward Chairman Mek Bahadur Budhathoki said that he came to know about the incident after Prem BK called him. He informed that the entire ward is now in mourning after the death of nine members of two families and that a mourning holiday has been declared on Tuesday.
As the government has not been able to arrange employment in their villages, those who are economically weak are still forced to go to various parts of India to work as laborers. Sometimes they lose their lives in floods, landslides, accidents and even fires, Budhathoki said.
He informed that discussions are underway with locals in Arki, Ceylon, on whether to cremate the bodies there or bring them home as the work of collecting the bodies is underway.
