The contracting process has finally begun for the Serawada-Padamghat road to connect the center of Mahabai Rural Municipality, which lacks a road network.
Last month, after the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development of Karnali Province and the World Bank jointly invested Rs 510 million in the budget, the contract was invited on December 22 with a period of 1 month for the blacktop with tags. The ministry invested Rs 100 million for this road, while the remaining amount is from the World Bank.
The contract process has begun for the construction of a 6-kilometer road from Serawada on the Karnali Highway to Padamghat, the center of Mahabai Rural Municipality, said the rural municipality chairman Khem Bahadur Singh. 'Now it is certain that the road reaching the rural municipality will be constructed. The compulsion to walk to reach the municipal center will end,' he said, 'We have already built a bailey bridge at Serawada on the Tila River. The Road Department is also working on a concrete bridge on the Padamghat River.' He said that a blacktop road will be built to the municipal center with the help of the World Bank.
Even though roads reach 8 out of 9 local level centers in Kalikot, it is necessary to walk for 3 hours from Serawada on the Karnali Highway to reach the center of Mahabai Rural Municipality. To reach Mahabai, one has to cross the Tila River. An old bailey bridge was installed on the Tila River last year. Currently, the Road Department is working on a contract to construct a concrete bridge over the Padamghat River. Since the road to reach the center of Mahabai is not built, locals are forced to walk.
Mahabai Rural Municipality technician Akkal Bahadur Shahi said that the contract process has begun after the rural municipality received approval to award a contract worth more than Rs 510 million under the Karnali Province Government's provincial and local road improvement program.
Rural Municipality Vice-Chairman Dansingh Sejuwal informed that since the road has to be dug through hard rocks after crossing the Tila River at Serawada on the Karnali Highway, the contract has been awarded to carry out blasting work.
