Public representatives have reached Kathmandu demanding the expansion of Forge services in Upper Dolpa.

A group of people's representatives has reached Kathmandu demanding the expansion of telephone services including 4G internet service in She-Phoksundo, Charkatangsong and Dolpo Budva rural municipalities of the district.

The group, which reached the remote district of Dolpa by foot and ship, met Minister for Communications Jagadish Kharel and presented their demands. Currently, only Nepal Telecom's 2G service is available in all three municipalities of Upper Dolpa. Due to which, the residents of Upper Dolpa are still deprived of Nepal Telecom's internet service.

'There is still no Nepal Telecom's internet service in all three municipalities of Upper Dolpa,' said Pemma Wangchen Gurung, vice-chairperson of She-Phoksundo rural municipality, 'The residents here are facing problems as the 2G towers installed about a decade ago are not working. We had to reach Kathmandu in search of a solution.'

The towers connected to Saldang, Bijer, Chharka, Dho and Phoksundo are old, so there are frequent problems. If the tower is damaged, technicians cannot reach it on time, and if any equipment breaks down, Dolpa remains without communication for months.

The team of people's representatives has also demanded the expansion of fiber internet in all three municipalities, as Upper Dolpa has already been connected to the road network via Mustang. They say that the lack of reliable internet facilities has also caused problems in the functioning of the local government.

Similarly, they have also requested Minister Kharel to broadcast news in the same language on Nepal Television daily or weekly, as the Bhote language is the language spoken and used daily by the people of the Himalayan community.
