With the extreme cold of winter, children in Mustang have been affected by problems including cold, cough, and pneumonia. It has been found that the cold has adversely affected the health of children and senior citizens here.

The hospital has reported that the number of patients admitted to the Provincial Hospital Jomsom due to cold has increased recently. The hospital's medical superintendent, Dr. Samiksha Kandel, said that children are the most affected due to the failure to take special precautions to avoid cold during the winter season. According to her, more than 80 percent of those admitted to the hospital and receiving services are children.

In the current fiscal year, 749 people have taken outpatient (OPD) services from the hospital in Shrawan, 609 in Bhadau, 570 in Asoj and 488 in Kartik. Dr. Kandel mentioned that 18 people were admitted to the hospital in Shrawan, 37 in Bhadau, 37 in Asoj and 48 in Kartik and received health services. According to her, 28 patients have been admitted and received services as of Mangsir 15.

The number of patients at the fifteen-bed provincial hospital is increasing day by day due to the cold, causing problems in effective treatment and a shortage of beds, he said.

Children are starting to experience problems such as colds, breathing problems, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and fever, informed the hospital's medical superintendent Dr. Kandel.  She mentioned that 80 percent of those who come with colds, fever, and pneumonia are children under the age of 10.

If symptoms of colds and pneumonia appear, they should be immediately taken to the hospital or a nearby health facility. Dr. Kandel suggested  According to the data from Shrawan to the second week of Mangsir of the current fiscal year, the number of children admitted to the hospital due to illness has increased by about 70 percent.

To stay safe from the cold, when burning firewood or coal, using geysers, heaters and other equipment, 'ventilation' should be opened to allow air to enter, said Dr. Kandel. Dr. Kandel also emphasized the need to take necessary precautions, including drinking hot water, eating light and nutritious food.

Meanwhile, with the extreme cold increasing, educational institutions in Upper Mustang have moved to the valley to escape the cold. It is said that the valley has been moved to find a safe place to protect the children here from the cold. Educational institutions in Baragung, Gharpajhong and Thasang rural municipalities here are operating.
