In Kaprechaur, Kalimati Rural Municipality-7, the Salyan Electricity Authority expanded the electricity line by spending approximately Rs 60 million in 2075 and 2077.

Five years have passed since the line expansion plan was completed, and the dream of the residents of Kaprechaur to light the lights remains unfulfilled. Instead, the buried poles have started collapsing in places.

The work of expanding the line was done under political pressure without preparing the substation and the location from which the lights would be connected. As the transmission line has not been finalized and the contract work under the district complete electrification program has not been continued, the buried poles have started collapsing. More than 500 families in Kaprechaur have been completely affected by the lack of lights.

The residents of Kaprechaur have repeatedly pressured the relevant bodies and staged a sit-in in Kalimati Rural Municipality just two weeks ago.

Even though it has been many years since the poles were buried and the wires were pulled, there is no possibility of lighting the lights yet, said Purna Bahadur Bohara of Ghuiyabari. 'We have been relying on solar power,' he said, 'Five years ago, the construction company completed the line extension work on time, saying that the transmission line was far away.' According to him, the construction of a substation is underway in Dimure, Kalimati Rural Municipality-4. It has not been completed. Although it was said that the transmission line would be connected from Kalimati-6 under the district complete electrification program, the construction work has been stopped, so the dream of being able to turn on the lights has not been fulfilled.

Local Nirmala Sunar said that the government budget has been misused as the buried poles have started to collapse and the wires have also been broken. 'Maternity services have been started in the health institutions here. But when the solar power does not work properly, health workers are forced to turn on their mobile phones at night to deliver babies,' she said.

Mitralal Rijal, chairman of Kalimati-7, said that the buried poles have started collapsing due to the irresponsibility of the concerned bodies. He said that despite repeated requests to turn on the lights, the concerned bodies have been avoiding them with various excuses. 'Due to the lack of lights, the work done by the ward office and the services provided by the health posts have been affected,' he said. 'Since the work of the substation could not be completed on time, even though it was proposed to extend the transmission line from Kalimati-6 as an alternative, it could not be successful.'

Dinesh Poudel, head of the Authority Salyan, said that although the construction of the substation was not completed on time, the work of expanding the transmission line is currently underway in Kaprechaur under the AIIB project. He said that the line will be connected from Kalimati-6 to Chharchhare and all the settlements of Kaprechaur will be lit in this fiscal year. He said that the office will repair the poles that were installed five years ago because they started to collapse.
