This rice is sown in March, planted in May/June, harvested in July and August and brought home in October-October.
According to the Agricultural Development Office In the year 2080/81, Jumli Marsi paddy was produced 3 thousand 3 thousand metric tons. Out of which 200 metric tons were exported outside the district. Farmers of Tatopani, Gutichour, Patarasi, Chandannath, Sinja and Hanku areas of Jumla are enjoying their fields now.
Farmers are currently planting Chandannath 1 and Chandannath 3 as well as Lekali 1 and Lekali 3 varieties recommended by the Agricultural Research Center along with Marsi rice.
Jumli Marsi rice is associated with identity and is bought and sold at a high price, so the farmers have not stopped planting it even in the midst of disease and insect infestation. Now Marsi rice is being bought and sold at the headquarters of Khalanga at 180 rupees per kg.
Domestic and foreign tourists visiting Karnali used to take Marsi rice. Since Marsi rice is firm, tasty and nutritious, it has also become a staple of big hotels.
