Information about this fact was given in the mid-term review and interaction of the 'Mental Health and Psychosocial Strategy Action Plan 2079-2087' held on Wednesday in Surkhet Birendranagar by the Ministry of Social Development of Karnali Province with the financial and technical support of the Swiss Government and the Mental Health and Counseling Center (CMC Nepal).
Director of CMC Nepal Dr. Pashupati Mahat, giving his presentation on mental health, its national policy and strategy, said that according to the statistics of the National Health Research Council, 42 percent of people in Karnali suffer from anxiety and 23 percent suffer from depression.
Stating that 11.7 percent of people are suffering from some kind of mental illness, he opined that the government at all levels should invest in its prevention. In the program, Social Development Minister Ghanshyam Bhandari said that common efforts are needed to solve mental health problems.
He said, "Currently, there is a problem of concealing the disease rather than getting it, it is something to think about. Very few people have mental health problems. Let's be serious about it in time." Minister Bhandari said that Karnali province was the first among the seven provinces of the country to create a mental health and psychosocial strategy and action plan and bring it to the implementation level. He said that all those concerned should be aware. Shakti Subedi, the director of the provincial health supply center, said that various types of drug supply are being done.
The head of the Karnali provincial office said that everything should be done to ensure the right to live a dignified life. The progress and public health officer of Karnali gave his presentation about the activities and activities being done by the state government for its improvement.
