A campaign against drug addiction has been launched in the secondary schools of Calikot after the youth started falling into the trap due to the neglect of the family.

 

Social Development Office had previously interacted with Shankar Mavi of Sannitriveni-1 serial and said  Khandachakra-5 Chulimalika Mavima located in Ghodena  Wednesday  In collaboration with the Office of Social Development and Community-Police Partnership against Drug Addiction  awareness campaign was conducted .

Stakeholders including chief district officer, district police chief, lawyers, civil society leaders, teachers, students, parents expressed their concern that youths are falling under the grip of drug addiction with the expansion of the road network .

'Until the road, there was no problem of drug addiction,' parent Aliwahadur Shahi said, 'the road reached the village, and the drug cartels also came in with it.' He suggested that the police should be strict in checking vehicles along with awareness in villages. 

Advocate Sarita Biswakarma said that children and youth who do not get the love of their families are stuck in the swamp of drugs. She told that it was found that the transportation of drugs and the sale and distribution of drugs through the means of transport are more common, although the punishment varies according to the amount, and there is a legal system of imprisonment from 1 month to 5 years for those who consume it and from 1 year to 10 years for those who sell and distribute it.

Ramesh Nepali, the leader of the civil society and the secretary of Federation of Non-Governmental Organizations Calikot, suggested that quality education and skill development programs should be conducted for the youth in the age group of 15 to 35 years. Head of Social Development Office Rachane Lohar said that

is aimed at bringing awareness to the society about drug addiction and reducing it, building a decent society by conducting a campaign in the community through students. "It will be effective if teachers, parents and students are held together," he said.

The headmaster of the school Deep Bahadur Shahi responded that despite the fact that drugs are taught in the secondary school curriculum, he got an opportunity to be more clear when he interacted with the concerned villages in the district. Stating that drug addiction has damaged the health, education and socialization of youth and teenagers, Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhattarai suggested that the local level should make an action plan against this and conduct awareness campaigns in Toltol.

Presenting the data that there are 234,000 drug addicts in Nepal, District Police Chief Tek Bahadur Rawat gave an orientation on what drugs are, their effects, origin, damage to society, mitigation measures, and legal provisions. According to him, the police in Calikot have prosecuted 8 people in a period of one year. Police Inspector Govinda Prasad Choudhary informed that through

community police partnership campaign, awareness orientation, interaction, rally, street play and other programs against drug addiction were conducted in 59 districts in 9 local levels of Calikot during 1 year .
