Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yamlal Kandel has said that agriculture is the strong basis of the economic prosperity of Karnali Province.

The current situation can be changed if the traditional system is modified and the modern, scientific and professional agricultural system is adopted. 

Addressing the 22nd National Paddy Day and Planting Festival organized by All Nepal Farmers Federation District Committee Surkhet in Birendra Nagar, Surkhet on Sunday, Chief Minister Kandel mentioned that agriculture should be developed not only as a means of livelihood but also as a permanent source of income and employment.

He said, 'We can become self-sufficient in agriculture, but for that, the joint efforts of the government, farmers, technicians, private sector and the community are necessary. Farming should be made the main means of business, not just a source of livelihood.' 

According to him, the geographical conditions also have potential for specific agricultural products. According to him, employment, production and income can be increased from the agricultural sector if it can be managed scientifically. Chief Minister Kandel said that the provincial government has given special priority to farmer registration, agricultural concessional loans, distribution of quality seeds and fertilizers, training and expansion of irrigation infrastructure.  The
