The Rapti highway has been blocked since Sunday night due to landslides. The highway has been blocked since night after a huge landslide occurred in Kapurkot Rural Municipality-3 Chorkhola due to the rain that fell during the night.

As the Rapti highway is blocked, the means of transport are stopped on the road . Passengers are stranded due to non-operation of alternative route from Kapurkot. Some nearby passengers are forced to walk around.

The landslide occurred around 10/11 pm on Sunday night and although the dozer of the concerned agency, JCB worked to remove the landslide, the road was completely blocked after another large landslide, according to Police Inspector Resam Bahadur Khatri of District Police Office Salyan .

He informed that the work of removing landslides is going on using JCB and dozer. He has requested the passengers not to get out of the vehicle and stay in a safe place as stones are falling from the road in addition to landslides.

He says that it will take more time to remove a large landslide from above the road. During the expansion of the road, the mountain in Chorkhola has been disturbed and the mountain itself has cracked, so landslides occur even in normal rains. Prakash Bhandari, the vice president of Kapurkot rural municipality, informed that the area is at high risk of landslides due to the use of JCB to excavate the hill while upgrading the road.

Although everyone is raising their voice during road upgrading, he says that Salyan, Rukum, Rolpa and Dang Basi are being affected as no one is interested in landslide control.
