"Surkhet bubble lake, my love is small because I lost my love net"In the 1930s, Kamala Shrestha sang the words of Premdev Giri and recorded this song at Radio Nepal. This single song made Surkhet known all over the country at once. Despite the absence of mobile phones, internet and social networks, the name of Surkhet Bulbule Lake reached the hearts of the people through radio.

There was no situation to come to Surkhet and give information about Bubble Lake when the transportation facilities and culture of tourism within the country had not been developed as it is now. But as the radio was frequently heard in Nepal, the words and lyrics of the song hung on the tongues of most people. This song was an example of how important the simple words drawn in a song and the rhythm mixed with it are for conveying a message. It is no exaggeration that this song made Surkhet and Bubble Lake known all over the world. Therefore, Bubble Lake is at the top of the 'bucket list' of anyone who reaches Surkhet now.

After that song that was recorded about 50 years ago, several songs were made about Bubble Lake. In the year 2062, a song of the movie Bandhaki was shot here. But in the years since then, Bubblee Udyan, which had lost its existence due to lack of protection, has recently been revived after motorboats have been operated on the lake.

After the visit of King Birendra in the year 2029, the special protection of Bubble Lake was started. This area, which is a major tourist destination of Surkhet, is not only a destination for people to enjoy nature, but also a habitat for birds. People still depend on water that comes from the ground, bubbling for bathing and washing clothes.

According to Mohanmaya Dhakal (Bhandari), head of Birendra Municipality, not only tourism development has taken place after motorboats started in Bulbule Lake, it has also made the economic activities here viable. "Bubble Lake is the identity of this place, even those who have not come to Surkhet have heard of Bubble Lake, so anyone who comes here must visit Bubble Lake once," she said.

After motorboats started operating in Bubble Lake, not only the income of the municipality has increased, but the number of people who depend on Bubble Lake for income has also increased. According to Mayor Dhakal, in the past years, they hardly collected Rs. 2.5 million revenue from the Bulbule Lake complex, but now it has reached almost Rs. 10 million.

"In the first place, revenue was collected only from the sale of tickets from those who go to the Bubble Lake complex, but now, the annual income is Rs. 1.3 lakh from the motorboat, and Rs. 1.2 lakh per year from the people who take photos through the word-of-mouth process", she said, "Furthermore, the number of people going there has increased due to the operation of the motorboat, which has also created jobs for many young people." Bubbles all day  They live in the premises, their customers have become tourists who come to Bubulu. From which they are earning good income.

According to Mayor Dhakal, Bulbule is becoming the first choice destination for around 80,000 students studying in Surkhet, tourists and locals. Historical Kakrevihar, Latikoili Deuti Bajai and other religious and tourist destinations are also active for those who come to see Bubble Lake. For the people here, they had to go to Kakrebihar for some natural environment to spend time, but now they can spend hours in Bubble Udyan.

Because the water comes bubbling from under the ground, it is named Bubule  Local experts say that the lake is gone. People started bathing and washing clothes in this water. As the water accumulated, a pond was formed nearby. When people started coming to see this pond, the garbage also increased. Due to the lack of protection, more garbage than water accumulated in the pond. If the weeds grow, the very existence of the pond will disappear. Although there were several efforts to preserve it from the government level, it could not be revived.

Mayor Dhakal Bulbule says that they are going to protect the park and work on its development. At present, it is planned to shift the place of bathing and washing clothes to another place, and a picnic spot will also be built nearby. He believes that this will greatly help the development of tourism here.

Bibi Dhakal, the owner of Botebora Company, planned to operate a motorboat here when the existence was in danger due to lack of protection. Before that, Dhakal, who had operated motorboats in Narayani River, Nepalgunj and other places, planned to operate motorboats while protecting Bubble Lake. He talked to people's representatives and stakeholders there. Only after receiving a positive response from them, they started to clean Dhakal Lake.

'Initially, we tried to clean it using a dozer, but it didn't work, even after trying several times, we couldn't clean the pond', he said, recalling the early days, 'After I didn't have any skills, I went into the pond and started taking out the garbage, then the idea of cleaning the pond came up.' According to Dhakal, the operator of

, this lake, which was a 'dead lake' for a long time, has now become 'vibrant'. This has made the tourist and economic activities here. "Even though it is close to the city, it has become a suitable destination for people to refresh themselves, now every day the number of people coming to visit, enjoy, take pictures, do business and study is increasing", Dhakal said. According to

President Dhakal, the lake was full of garbage and water lilies. "The labor of 1,860 people has been spent to clean the lake, even though the lake is seen with motorboats moving now, we had no idea that this would happen at that time, we were investing in uncertainty at the beginning," said Dhakal.

Botebora Company has cleaned and started motorboat service with its own investment. The company has entered into an agreement to pay 1.3 million annually to the Birendranagar Municipality for operating motorboats in the Bubble Lake. The lake is now served by two 11-seater Fistel brand motorboats built by Nepal Ship and Boat Building Company, the first and largest motorboat manufacturer in Nepal.

The municipality called for tenders for the operation of motorboats in Bubble Lake. In which Dhakal's company was ranked second in the selection list. Dhakal says that Botebora got permission after the number one company failed to submit the necessary documents and did not have experience in operating motorboats.

Navraj Gurung, a member of the Surkhet Valley City Development Committee and coordinator of the Bulbule Lake Conservation Sub-Committee, said that the Bulbule Lake has become a destination for people after it has been cleaned and motorboats have started.

"As the population of Surkhet and the number of people coming from outside are increasing, the population density here is increasing, the lack of a place for people to work and enjoy the day has been fulfilled by Bubble Lake", he said, "Earlier, when the lake was not clean, only very few people went there, but now thousands of people have started going there every day. In a way, the appearance of this place has changed after the motorboats started in Bubble Lake."  According to him, after the start of

motorboats, the number of not only local but also foreign tourists has increased rapidly. According to him, as Karnali is not only the gateway but also the capital of the state, there is always a lot of people here, for them, the tourist destination like Bubble Lake is attracting them to extend their stay and go there even once to go boating in the lake.

"In the past, efforts have not been made to protect the lake. The government invested in expanding the small lake, but it was not completed. When the expansion was not good, it became like a football field. Even on social media, people made fun of whether it was a lake or a football field," he said.
