The construction of Ranighat bridge has been stalled for 13 years. The under-construction Ranighat Bridge on Bheri River located in Virendranagar Municipality-2 of Surkhet has not been completed for 13 years. In 2069, a contract was awarded for the construction of a bridge at Ranighat. But the work has not been completed yet.
On June 29, 2069, Pappu-Mall JV took the contract for Rs. It was agreed that the bridge could be built within 43 months i.e. 29 January 2072 . The company that has contracted with the Road Division Office, Surkhet, has stalled the work due to technical reasons despite receiving a payment of 43.822 thousand rupees.
Due to the non-construction of this bridge over the Bheri river, the road connecting Karnali to Bardiya in Lumbini province from Surkhet has come to a standstill. This bridge is mandatory for the operation of Bhurigaon-Telpani road connecting Surkhet and Bardia. However, since this bridge has been standing still for 13 years, the road connecting Bhurigaon in Bardia to Surkhet oil and water has not been upgraded. As a result, even though it is a short route, the locals have to travel a long distance.
Dev Bahadur Kami of Birendranagar-2 complained that he was suffering because the bridge was not built. "If the bridge was built, it would be very easy to go to Bardia from here," he said. It would have been easy for us to earn a living by doing normal business . Financially we would be able . But there has been a problem because the bridge has not been built for a long time.'
He said that because the bridge was not built, the agricultural produce produced by the locals could not be sent to the market. He says that the lack of construction of the bridge for so many years is a major weakness of the concerned body. "The leaders who make this bridge an agenda during the election do not care after the election," he said, "All the leaders say they will build this bridge, but no one has built it."
The length of this road is 52 km. If the road is upgraded with a bridge at Bheri, it will be the shortest route to connect Surkhet with Terai . But since no bridge has been constructed here, now we have to reach Bardia from Surkhet via Kohalpur.
Om Bahadur Gharti Magar of Barahatal rural municipality-2 said that there is a lot of impact if the Ranighat bridge is not built. He said that the locals, who were happy when the bridge construction started, have become disappointed because of the lack of work for so many years. He said that due to the bridge, the road work could not proceed. He said that after the construction of the bridge was stalled, the structures built so far are deteriorating.
As this road connecting Karnali with Lumbini region is short, there is frequent talk of upgrading this road and moving ahead with the construction of the bridge. But the road construction plan is currently stalled. Since the financial year 2071/072, the work of the road plan has not been able to move forward. Due to lack of budget allocation in the project which is already half completed, further work has not been able to proceed . The work of opening the track from Bardia to Surkhet border and from Surkhet to Bardia border is only half done.
The plan to build a 52 km road connecting from Telpani in Surkhet to Bhurigaon in Bardia has been advanced since 2070. In recent years, the government has stopped allocating the budget for this road. 12 km of the road connecting Surkhet oil pani from Bhurigaon in Bardia is within Bardia National Park. The political parties here have submitted dozens of demands for the construction of this road to the government and the head of state who come to the district time and time again. But the work has not been done . After the bridge was not built for a long time, the bank guarantee of the contractor company was confiscated on June 20, 2079.
The road division office has confiscated the bank guarantee of 80 lakh 79 thousand rupees. Engineer Barkh Bahadur Kathayat of Road Division Office Surkhet informed that the contract was terminated with the contractor who abandoned the construction work in the middle of the bridge design. According to him, even though it was later corrected, it did not work. After the contract was broken, the contractor went to court. As the case is pending, even the new contract process for the construction of the bridge has not proceeded. "It is seen that the work will proceed only after the court process is over," he said.
