The hail that fell on Thursday evening has caused great damage to the ripe grain crops and the blooming apples, walnuts and pears in Mahabai Rural Municipality and Tilagufa Municipality here.
According to the District Agricultural Development Office, there has been damage to crops such as barley, wheat, and fruits, such as apples, walnuts, and pears, which are about to be harvested. "Hail has fallen in other areas as well," said Chandra Bahadur Shahi, Agriculture Development Officer, "There was no damage as the crops had been imported elsewhere. As Mahabai and Tilagufa are winter areas, it is estimated that 50 percent of late ripening crops have been damaged.
Mahabai's Dillikot, Naku Vishtabada, Katampur and other places, ripened barley, wheat and fruits have been completely destroyed by hail, village chairman Khem Bahadur Singh informed.
Similarly, Deputy Chief Mahendra Bahadur Shahi said that 60% damage was done to the crops ripened by the hail and the newly blooming apples, walnuts, pears etc. According to him, even though there was hail in other wards of the city, there was only partial damage.
