Hima stepping up campaign against child marriage

Hima Rural Municipality of Jumla is intensifying the campaign against child marriage. The campaign has been intensified with the goal of declaring the entire rural municipality free from child marriage within this financial year.

Out of 7 wards within the municipality, 6 wards have been declared child marriage free. Child marriage has stopped happening in Hima now. Children, youth, teenagers, women's groups, employees, teachers, parents, public representatives are all working to stop child marriage. 

After two years of surveying within the municipality, no child marriage data was found, the municipality is declaring child marriage-free wards. Hima-7 is also in the final stages of declaring child marriage free. 

Rural Municipality Chairman Lakshman Bahadur Shahi said that child marriage is a crime and the entire municipality has been made free of child marriage. Hima has made the main slogan of 'Behewari 20 Rashpari' which is the unity of all of us.

In the beginning, it is to spread awareness that child marriage should not be done, in the second step, to inform about the legal problems to be faced when child marriage is done, and finally, after conducting a survey of whether child marriage is done or not, it is announced that child marriage is free based on the results. 

Hima had mobilized teachers, employees, public representatives in the campaign against child marriage. The municipality has made basic indicators to prevent child marriage. Child marriage strategy, child protection policy has been made. Chairman Shahi said that the guidelines have been made and implementation has been carried out, child rights protection committees have been formed at the municipal, ward and school levels.

He said, 'Based on these standards, the wards were declared free of child marriage.' Now when Himama Jotish looks at China, citizens and others ask for certificates and ward recommendations. Dhamis ask the age and give the date of marriage. Couples who are about to get married have consulted the ward. Hima has also adopted a policy of making anyone who attends a child marriage banquet and event a party to the action. 

Jumla currently has 60 wards including 1 municipality and 7 rural municipalities. Out of them, 14 wards have been freed from child marriage so far. Along with 6 wards of Hima Rural Municipality, three wards of Sinja, 1 ward of Kankasundari, 1 ward of Patarasi, 1 ward of Tila and 1 ward of Gutichour have been freed from child marriage.
