A joint team of Drug Administration Department Nepalganj, District Administration Office Salyan and Consumer Welfare Protection Office has seized expired medicines worth lakhs from 19 government and private hospitals, clinics and pharmacies in the district.

Monitoring was done after receiving complaints from the general public. Private hospitals and clinics complained that they were charging high fees in the name of services and selling prohibited drugs. District Hospital Salyan, Sharda Municipality-1 Srinagar, Dhodchaur, Mokhla of Siddhakumakh Rural Municipality and private hospitals and clinics in Bagchaur Bazar of Bagchaur municipality were monitored, said Shyamlal Kharal, Head of Industry and Consumer Protection Office Salyan. 

He informed that not only expired medicines worth 8 lakhs but also surgical materials were seized. According to him, the drug administration department has been sent to Nepalgunj to destroy the seized drugs and surgical materials. He said that since this is the first time, everyone has been alerted and action will be taken if expired medicines are found to be sold in the future. After learning that the

was being monitored, some medical staff closed the shutters. During the monitoring, most of the private hospitals and clinics were found to be operating against the norms, Kharal said.
