Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology has been installed at Babai, the main crossing point of Karnali. With this, the vehicles will now be digitally monitored. Automated technology has been installed to make road travel safer and prevent criminal activities in the state.
This technology installed at the border of Karnali and Lumbini states is the first time in Karnali state.
After installation of automatic number plates, drivers have to stop the vehicle for a long time at the police check post and have to enter. This technology automatically records the number of vehicles entering and exiting the border, the number plate, the color of the vehicle and the time the vehicle traveled.
This will make it easier for the police to investigate the crime. Senior Superintendent of Police Shivkumar Shrestha of Karnali Province Police Office Surkhet said that the police will not waste time by checking the vehicle. He said that all the details of the incident at the checkpoint will be digitally recorded. He said that only suspect vehicles will be stopped and checked. Inaugurating the
technology, Chief Minister Yamlal Kandel said that Karnali is going to be developed as a digital province. 'This is the beginning. We will install digital technology at all checkpoints in the state," he said. "Check posts in every district will be based on digital technology to make road travel organized and easy. This will help to make the province safe and orderly.
From now on, the activities at the main checkpoint will be monitored by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the Provincial Police Office and the District Police Office Surkhet. The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law has said that 10 lakh rupees have been spent to install the technology.
