The police have arrested two operators of 'Oasis Tourism International' in Pokhara on charges of defrauding the public by collecting money under the pretense of taking them on foreign tours.
Kaski police raided the company, which operates in Parsyang, Pokhara-5, and took them into custody. Those arrested are 26-year-old Vivek Regmi of Kanchanpur Municipality-12, Saptari, and Mohammad Yaser, a resident of Santinagar, Karnataka State, India.
The police also seized computers and other important materials used in the office. According to the police's preliminary investigation, although the company was registered in the name of a Nepali citizen, its main planner was found to be an Indian national.
The company had been attracting customers by offering cheap packages for tours to countries including Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. The police claim that the scam involved creating packages costing between 400,000 to 500,000 rupees per person, collecting advance payments at first, and then, after receiving full payment, shutting down the company and the operators absconding.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Namraj Bhattarai, the company would entice customers with various offers and have them pay in installments. During the raid, the police found 15 young women working at the company. They were handed over to their guardians after necessary questioning and counseling. The police stated that two other operators involved in the incident are currently at large, and efforts to locate them have been intensified, with further investigation ongoing.
