Kaski Police have arrested an organized gang involved in a series of thefts in various places in Pokhara.
The arrested include nine people, including two Indian and two Chinese nationals. According to the initial investigation of the police, this gang has been involved in at least five major thefts in Pokhara.
The arrested are Rahul Nishad, 23, of Uttar Pradesh, India, Somnath Hanumant Jadhav, 40, of Maharashtra, and Ben Ji, 30, of Banja, China, and Wang Liya In, 37, of Shandong. Similarly, the Nepali nationals involved in and aiding the thefts are Rajkumar Bik, 42, of Syangja, Khim Bahadur Chhetri (Raju KC), 50, of Annapurna, Kaski, Ashok Pokharel, 29, of Arghakhanchi, Keshav Paija Magar, 51, of Pokhara-16, and Anil Bik, 27, of Baglung.
According to the police, the gang has been found to be systematically dividing roles and committing thefts. It has been revealed that Indian citizens are directly involved in the theft, Chinese citizens do 'reiki' (surveillance) before the theft, and Nepali associates show houses and help in buying and selling stolen goods.
According to Birendra Kumar Paswan, Information Officer of the District Police Office, Kaski, it has been easy to communicate within the group as the Chinese citizens understand Nepali and Hindi.
The gang stole 25 tolas of gold and silver jewelry and 70 thousand rupees from the house of Hemraj Giri in Mani Marg, Pokhara-18 on Asad 14, 2083; gold, cash 115 thousand, laptop and mobile from the house of Shiva Prasad Baral in Chhorepatan, Pokhara-17 on Asad 4; 1 tola 54 red gold and two mobiles from the house of Giridhari Shrestha in Bhakunde, Pokhara-18 on Asad 15, 2083; a mobile and 85 thousand cash from the room of Mohsin Khatami in Pokhara-8 on Asad 23, 2083; and an iPhone and other items from the house of Hiramani Lamichhane in Lakeside, Pokhara-6 on Asad 23, 2083.
The police have recovered 9 mobiles, 1 smart watch, 1 laptop, gold bars and pieces of various weights (about 15 tolas) and cash 281 thousand 220 rupees from them.
Paswan informed that the arrestees have been remanded in custody for theft and robbery and further investigation is underway through the Ward Police Office Baidam.
Meanwhile, Kaski police have also arrested another gang that stole passengers' purses on public buses. The police have taken into custody 42-year-old Guru Prasad Bajgain of Rautahat, 34-year-old Rabin Khadka and 45-year-old Tek Bahadur Bhujel of Jhapa.
