The Shaligram rock located at the confluence of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi has been submerged.

The Shaligram rock has been submerged after the water level of the Kaligandaki River and Setikhola has risen due to continuous rain for two days. The road leading to the rock, the nearby Sattal and the Parikrama site have also been submerged, informed Kulraj Tiwari, the guardian of the Shaligram Vidyashram. According to him, the Shaligram rock has been submerged after the flow of the Kaligandaki has increased.

The water level in the Kaligandaki and Setikhola has risen sharply due to continuous rain. With the submergence of the rock, priests and scholars working in the area have been displaced, while devotees who regularly come to worship and visit the Shaligram rock have also been deprived of seeing the Shaligram rock.

Local Tilak Parajuli said that the Shila Parikrama site has been completely destroyed due to the flow of the Setikhola that merges with the Setiveni and the high flow of the Kaligandaki.

All the structures including the Sattal in the Shaligram area along with the Shaligram rock have been submerged. The embankment and gabion net built to protect the rock have been submerged, so visiting the rock has been banned.

Setiveni Bazaar, which is located on the border of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi districts, is at risk of being submerged when floods occur due to the dam of the Kaligandaki 'A' Hydropower Project. With the increase in the flow of the Kaligandaki and Setikhola, the concern that Setiveni Bazaar will be submerged has been growing for about 200 traders and the general public in the market area towards Parbat and the market area towards Galyang Municipality-5 of Syangja.

Two years ago, when the floods in Shrawan reached the market, one house was destroyed and half a dozen houses were displaced. Ward Chairman of Galyang Municipality-5, Ghanshyam Bhattarai, said that the risk will remain until the flow of the Kaligandaki River is changed.
