Palungtar Municipality has decided to impose a 25 percent fine on landowners who do not provide land in the land bank but keep the land fallow for more than three years.

Presenting the policy and program for the fiscal year 2083/084 on Wednesday, Mayor Bivas Chintan said that the municipality has initiated the process of implementing the concept of land bank and bringing barren land to use through the land bank. “According to the concept, landowners who do not provide land in the land bank but keep the land fallow for more than three years will be fined,” he said.

He also said that a land tax will be imposed on public and government land and structures built on that land. He also said that the municipality will make public the records of public property and implement a policy to protect and promote its proper use, identify public, private and public lands within the municipal area and start the construction of fruit gardens at least in one place in each ward.

The municipality has also included in its policy and program the promotion of crops that are not destroyed by monkeys, such as chilli, ginger, turmeric, barley, timur, jackfruit, and lemon, in places where monkeys are more prevalent.
