Permission has been obtained to cut down trees in the national and community forest areas of Chitwan district for the construction of the Damauli-Bharatpur 220 kV transmission line under the project.

The Division Forest Office, Chitwan, has granted a forest entry license to the project for the cutting, trimming and safe management of trees within the transmission line construction area, effective from Friday, 25th Baisakh 2083. A formal agreement has also been reached between the project and the Division Forest Office in this regard.

As per the permission, the government will cut down 1,263 trees of various species in the managed forest (Satanchuli protected area) located in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1 and the Satanchuli Community Forest, Akaladevi and Siddhadevi Community Forest areas under Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29. Arrangements have been made to cut down the cut trees in a place deemed safe by the concerned community forest user group and the Sub-Division Forest Office within the specified time.

As per the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Government of Nepal on 20 Mangsir 2079, approval was given to use a total of 92.73 hectares of forest area in Chitwan and Tanahun districts for the construction of the transmission line and to remove 9,127 trees in that area. Of the approved area, 25.27 hectares of forest area is in Chitwan and 67.46 hectares in Tanahun.

Based on the same decision, an agreement was concluded between the project and the Department of Forest and Soil Conservation on 30 Poush 2082. After that, the work of felling trees in the transmission line construction area has been taken forward in coordination and supervision of the Division Forest Office, the project and the concerned community forest user groups.

According to the project, the work of felling trees in the forest area under Tanahun district is currently ongoing. After the construction of the transmission line is completed, it is expected that it will be easier to connect the electricity generated by the Tanahun Hydropower Project to the national transmission system.
