The District Administration Office, Kaski, has fined a firm in Pokhara for hiding cylinders by creating an artificial shortage of LPG for cooking in the market. The action was taken on Saturday after the administration found a complaint during a random monitoring conducted after complaints about the shortage of gas in the market increased.

Assistant Chief District Officer Chitrangat Baral informed that Bhandari Traders in Pokhara-6, Jarebar, was found hiding 48 filled gas cylinders and transferring gas from one cylinder to another along with three pieces of equipment. ‘The trader has been fined Rs 50,000 immediately in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act 2075,’ he said. The monitoring team has also directed that the 48 large and 38 small gas cylinders found in the shop be sold to consumers immediately on a first-come, first-served basis.

Meanwhile, a meeting of stakeholders held under the chairmanship of Chief District Officer Rudra Devi Sharma on Saturday has taken various important decisions to facilitate the gas supply system. From now on, gas industries and sellers will have to keep daily records of the quantities they receive and sell and submit them to the District Administration Office. The meeting has directed sellers to distribute gas in minimum quantities on a priority basis to senior citizens above 75 years of age, people with disabilities and students living in dormitories.

The meeting warned the administration not to hoard gas unnecessarily, to sell and distribute only by businessmen with official certificates, and not to sell petroleum products openly in bottles or jars, said Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer Shiva Lamsal. The meeting has requested the general public to use electric stoves to reduce dependence on LP gas.
