Vaccination has been started for children in Dhorpatan Municipality of Baglung after measles cases started increasing.
After 83 children in wards-7, 8 and 9 of Dhorpatan Municipality showed symptoms of measles for a month, vaccination against measles has started from Friday, said Bhumishwar Sharma, head of the health department of Dhorpatan Municipality. ‘Vaccination has started for children aged 10 to 19 who are studying in school and outside,’ he said, ‘6,763 children and adolescents here will be vaccinated.’
On February 28, a child was found to be infected with measles in Dhorpatan. So far, the infection has been confirmed in 5 children. Dr. Bipin Thapa of Burtiwang Hospital said that other children have also shown symptoms. He said that vaccination has been started for children and adolescents in the municipality to prevent the increase in measles cases.
He said that 43 people with measles symptoms are still undergoing treatment. Preparations are underway to vaccinate 237 health workers involved in the treatment against measles. The hospital has informed that the vaccination will be conducted until Sunday.
