In Lamjung, which has only one constituency, the deposits of 9 out of 12 candidates who filed their candidacies for the House of Representatives elections on February 21 have been confiscated.

According to the District Election Office, their deposits were forfeited after they failed to secure 10 percent of the total votes. The winning candidates are Dharmaraj KC of the National Independent Party, Prithvi Subba Gurung of UML and Gam Prasad Gurung of the Nepali Congress.

Out of a total of 75,460 votes cast, 2,450 votes were invalidated. Out of 73,100 votes secured, the winning candidate KC received 33,898 votes, or 46.42 percent of the votes.

UML's Gurung received 16,876 votes, or 23.11 percent, and Congress's Gurung received 16,569 votes, or 22.69 percent.

Nepali Communist Party's (NCP) Harijang Tamang received 3,371 votes, or 4.61 percent, but failed to secure his deposit. Kebindra Jung Gurung of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lost his deposit after getting 1,000 votes, or 1.36 percent of the votes. The remaining 7 candidates could not get even 1 percent of the votes.

Kosh Lal Gurung of the Shram Sanskriti Party got 565 votes, Bikash Gurung of the Mongol National Organization got 351 votes, Rabindra Nakhola of the Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) got 144 votes, independent candidate Santosh Ghimire got 130 votes, Milan Baskota of the Janadesh Party got 53 votes, Bharat Gurung of the National Republic Nepal got 41 votes, and Gujeshwari Prajapati Magaju of the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party got 12 votes. The deposits of 9 candidates who could not get 10 percent of the votes have been forfeited, informed District Election Officer Yadav Raj Acharya. He said that candidates who could not get 10 percent of the total votes will not get their deposit back.

While registering their candidacy in the election for the member of the House of Representatives, each candidate has to pay a deposit of Rs 10,000. There is a 50 percent discount for women, Dalits or minorities and economically disadvantaged people.

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has stated that out of a total of 137,124 voters in Lamjung, 75,460 votes, or 55.03 percent, were cast. 193 polling stations, including one temporary one, were set up for voting in Lamjung.
