After extending the deadline twice to collect applications, the Gorkha Election Police has finally received applications as per the quota.

Applications were collected for 2283 election police posts in the district from Poush 25 to Magh 1.

After the required number of applications were not received in the first period, the deadline was extended by two days and applications were collected until Magh 3. When applications were collected from the District Police Office and Armed Police Force 29 Gulma Gorkha, due to a low number of applications, applications were also collected from the Area Police Offices Thati Pokhari and Arughat. When applications were collected from four places, only 31964 people applied in Magh.

After the required number of applications were not received, the deadline was extended again for the second time on Saturday and Sunday. In the latest extended period, 786 additional applications were received, said DSP Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office. ‘Out of the 2,283 election police officers required, 2,760 people applied,’ he said, ‘We have kept 323 people who are more than the required number in reserve.’ He also said that the final results of the election police have been published on Monday evening. The required 2,244 election police officers have been recruited for the District Police Office, Gorkha and 79 for the Armed Police Force.

Those selected for the election police were called on Wednesday. The selected ones will be trained and deployed to polling stations during the election.
