The District Administration Office, Nawalparasi, has granted citizenship to a young man born to an Indian father and a Nepali mother.

Mission Gautam, a resident of Devchuli Municipality-13, was granted citizenship based on the proof of his birth mother.

According to District Administration Office Officer Jyotiraj Aryal, this is the first time that such a citizenship has been granted from the district based on the latest amendment to the Citizenship Act.

Mission's father is Mithun Bhamik. He is a citizen of West Bengal, India. The Nepali citizenship granted to Mission states that his father's address is West Bengal, India. Mission's mother is Nepali Sangita Gautam. Mission Gautam has been granted naturalized citizenship.

Aryal informed that citizenship was granted to him as per the provision in the latest citizenship regulations that citizenship can also be granted based on the proof that the father is a foreigner. Aryal informed that there is a provision to get citizenship as per the revised regulations even if the mother is Nepali and the father is unknown.
