Even though Gorkha needs 2,283 election police officers, only 1,950 have applied for the extension.

The Election Police has received fewer applications than the required quota for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. In Gorkha, applications were invited for 2,204 Nepal Police and 79 Armed Police Force personnel.
But by the end of the application deadline, only 1,914 people have applied for the Nepal Police and 36 for the Armed Police Force. DSP Rajkumar Shrestha of the District Police Office, Gorkha, said that the application deadline ended on Saturday. He said that out of the 2,283 election police officers who had applied, only 1,950 applications had been received. According to the requested quota, 333 election police officers were found to be insufficient.
‘The application deadline has ended today, 1,950 applications have been received,’ he said. The police had collected applications only from the District Police Office and Armed Police Force Nepal No. 29 Gulma Gorkha within a time limit of 25th February to 1st February. Since the number of applicants was not significant when applications were taken only at the district headquarters, applications were also collected from the Area Police Offices Thantipokhari and Arughat. When applications were collected from four places, only 1,722 had applied by Magh 1.
‘The deadline for collecting applications was extended by two days on Magh 1, and the number of applicants has reached 1,950,’ he said. If there were more than required, it was customary to recruit qualified candidates into the Election Police through competition. This year, with fewer applications than required, it seems that there will be confusion in the competitive selection process.
