The Congress-UML alliance has registered its candidacy in Gandaki for the National Assembly elections. Jagat Timilsina of Tanahun has registered her nomination from the Congress in the other seat and Samjhana Devkota of Gorkha has registered her nomination from the UML in the women's seat.
In Gandaki, the term of the then Maoist Narayan Kaji Shrestha and the UML's Bhagwati Neupane for women is ending on 20 Falgun. Timilsina, who has filed a candidacy for the other seat, is the central president of the Professors' Association close to the Congress. He is contesting the election after submitting his resignation to the association.
Congress Gandaki President Shukraraj Sharma said that Timilsina was made a candidate on the instructions of the central president. He said, 'There is no proposal from anyone in his name from Gandaki, no recommendation from anyone. It was done directly on the instructions of the president.'
Earlier, Shankar Prasad Baral and Laxmi Baskota have registered their candidacies on behalf of the Rastriya Janamorcha. Kapil Lama of Manang and Goma Ghimire of Kaski are preparing to file their candidacies from the Nepali Communist Party.
