Children from Tarakhet, Mangala Rural Municipality-2 have mobilized the money they raised by playing Deusibhailo to install street lights.
The Beni-Darwang road, the footpath and the suspension bridge connecting Simkuna in Mangala Rural Municipality-3, Satbise, in Tarakhet have started lighting up the street lights at night since Saturday. Local youth Arjun Poudel said that he has installed 15 street lights at a cost of 70 thousand, including 35 thousand collected by playing Deusibhailo during Tihar.
'We have saved the money collected by playing Deusibhailo and used it for social work,' he said, 'Our plan to light up the street lights to make Tarakhet safe has been successful with the support of local leaders and parents.'
The street lights have helped in controlling accidents, theft, and the activities of wild animals including leopards, and it has also made it easier for locals to move around. They have started to feel safe.
Street Light Consumers Committee Chairman Gokarna Poudel informed that the project was completed by collecting an additional Rs 35,000 from consumers and said that the street light fee will be paid by collecting the amount monthly. The street light was inaugurated by 96-year-old Tarakhet resident Santakumari Bhattachan on Saturday. Local Binod Bhattachan said that the youth and children of Tarakhet have done small but creative and message-oriented work.
Local Chamalal Poudel said that in the next phase, there is a plan to collect garbage and install CCTV cameras in public places of Tarakhet for waste management and cleanliness.
Tarakhet, which is located on the Beni-Darwang road that connects Dhawalagiri, Malika and Mangala rural municipalities with the district headquarters Beni, is home to 17 households.
