The UML has recommended nine candidates from East Nawalparasi, which has two parliamentary constituencies. The decision was taken at the UML district meeting held on Saturday for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21.
When asked for names from aspirants who want to be candidates, 9 people in the district expressed their desire to be candidates, so all their names have been recommended to the provincial committee, UML sources said.
From constituency number 1, 8 people, including Devchuli Municipality Mayor Hari Neupane and his personal secretary Sagar Neupane, have claimed to be candidates. Similarly, the names of former Gaindakot mayor Chhatraraj Poudel, Rabindra Adhikari, Gopendra Kesari Neupane, Tilottam Poudel, Gopal Khanal and others have been recommended.
Only one name, UML central member Tilak Mahat, has been recommended from constituency number 2 of the House of Representatives. UML claims that no one other than Mahat, who is considered close to UML Chairman KP Oli, has expressed his desire to be a candidate in his constituency.
In the 2079 BS parliamentary elections, Nepali Congress candidates had won in both constituencies here.
