For the first time, a bus has reached Malkawang, Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-5, a district located in a geographically remote and remote area. Bus number Dha1Kha 308 reached Malkawang for the first time on Saturday, carrying passengers from the district headquarters Benibazar.

The bus owner Jagat Dagami Magar and driver Shyam Mijar were welcomed by the locals with abir and garlands. Dhawalagiri-5 Malkawang Ward Chairman Amar Chantyal, along with people's representatives, local leaders, mothers' groups and youth club representatives welcomed the driver and vehicle owners and celebrated the occasion.

According to Ward Chairman Chantyal, only jeeps, tractors and motorcycles used to come to Malkawang, which was connected to the road network in 2078 BS. He said that during the repair of the road blocked by the rural municipality in Barkha, it was made possible to operate buses by adjusting the grade and turning in difficult places.

This is the first time that buses have started operating in Malkawang after five years of being connected to the road network. After the operation of the bus, the locals have expressed happiness that they can travel at a cheaper fare compared to the jeep. Earlier, each person was forced to pay Rs. 1,000 per person while traveling from Malkawang to Beni in a jeep.

Ward Chairman Chhantyal informed that the per capita fare for the bus has been fixed at Rs 750. 'The distance from Beni to Malkawang is 45 km. With the operation of the bus service, more than 300 families from Malkawang, Bhedi Khalda, Kuinekhani, Arwang, and Ghantiwang have benefited,' he said.

Ward Chairman Chhantyal said that the road has been built to allow bus operation for eight months except Asad and Asoj. Myagdi Transport Pvt. Ltd. has stated that one bus will leave Beni every morning at 7:00 am and one from Malkawang every day at 8:00 am.

Earlier, residents of Malkawang, Bhedi Khalda, Arwang, Ghantiwang, and Kuinekhani used to walk to reach Marang Valley and board the bus. Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality is preparing to implement the plan for the current fiscal year to connect Malkawang to Bhedi Khalta on the road network, said Prem Prasad Pun, the rural municipality chair. According to him, Rs 3 million has been allocated this year for the expansion and upgrading of the section.

The road has not reached Bhedi Khalta yet. The Gandaki Provincial Government has allocated Rs 10 million in the current fiscal year with the aim of implementing a multi-year plan for the upgrading of the road connecting Malika Rural Municipality to Malkawang via Bimalurwang, Marangbesi, and Arwang.

Provincial Assembly member Resham Jugjali expressed the view that a multi-year contract should be called for by ensuring a source of Rs 50 million, assuming 20 percent of the budget. He informed that initiatives are being taken to upgrade the difficult parts of the Malkawang section from Lurwang and make it easier.
