During the protests on Bhadra 24, arson, vandalism and looting caused damage worth Rs 5 billion in Gandaki Province. Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey informed the provincial assembly meeting on Monday about the damage to the private sector of Rs 3 billion and the government sector of Rs 2 billion.
138 government offices and 61 private structures in Kaski, Tanahun, Nawalparasi (East of Bardaghat Susta), Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Syangja have been damaged.
He said that 361 two-wheelers were set on fire, 7 were vandalized, 161 four-wheelers were set on fire and 31 were vandalized within the province. Kaski has the highest number of 309 two-wheelers, 144 four-wheelers, Tanahun has 33 two-wheelers, 14 four-wheelers, Nawalpur has 19 and two four-wheelers.
Chief Minister Pandey said that there is some problem in raising resources for reconstruction as the budget of the provincial government for the current year has arrived. He said that all ministries have been instructed to implement policy decisions to raise resources for reconstruction by cutting other expenses except for non-essential current programs. He said that the process of management, auction and logging of materials that could not be reused due to fire damage has been taken forward.
He said that the attack on the private sector during the protest has tarnished the atmosphere in the long-term plan of the Gandaki Provincial Government to attract investment along with tourists to Pokhara. He said that the provincial government will be active in collaborating with the private sector, which has created thousands of jobs and made a significant contribution to the country's economy, to create a peaceful, safe and investment-friendly environment.
During the protest, 7 private houses and structures in Kaski have been completely damaged and 18 have been partially damaged. 6 completely and 20 partially damaged in Nawalpur, 6 partially damaged in Tanahun and 3 partially damaged in Parbat.
During the protest, 3 people have died in Kaski within the province. More than 70 people were injured on both sides, including security personnel and protesters.
