An Indian tourist has died after falling into a lake in Ngisyang Rural Municipality-6, Manang, along the Annapurna Circuit Trek. The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old Pintu Mukherjee.

Mukherjee died on the spot after falling suddenly while going from Leather to Thorongla Pass on Tuesday morning, said Nawaraj Paudyal, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, Manang. The body was taken to Chame by the police on Wednesday with the help of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Manang and local tourism entrepreneurs.

After completing the legal process, the body was sent to the Teaching Hospital (Teaching) in Kathmandu in an ambulance (Ga 3 Cha 7496) under the care of Police Constable Bimalraj Bastakoti, the administration said.

Tourists often experience health problems due to windfall, cool air and lack of oxygen in the place, which is about 4,200 meters above sea level.

‘The risk of death due to the lake is increasing, it is necessary to be cautious while trekking,’ said Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, Chief of ACAP Manang. ‘Let’s trek safely, let’s go to high places only with preparation,’ he urged.
