Three foreign tourists have gone missing in the Manaslu region after heavy snowfall since last Tuesday. Two Italian nationals who had reached Pangbari Peak in Chumanubri-1 on Kartik 12 are missing.

Police have said that although four of the six people trapped on Pangbari Peak were rescued on Sunday, two are still missing. Italian nationals Stefano Farronato, 67, and Alessandro Gaputo, 37, who had reached the peak to climb it, are missing, said SP Bharat BK of the District Police Office, Gorkha. “They were said to be in contact with the company until the evening of the 13th, after which they were not in contact,” he said.

He said that a three-member mountain search and rescue team is going to Pangbari Peak on Monday to search for the missing Italian national. The rescue team will arrive in a helicopter to Samdo and walk from Samdo to the peak. Pangbari Peak can be reached after about 5 hours of hiking from Samdo. “The locals are also building a road, and the rescue team will also arrive today,” he said. They lost contact from Camp-1 of Pangbari Peak, which is 6,887 meters high.

Among them, 65-year-old Velter Perlino, who had injured his leg, had come to the lower camp with a Nepali helper after the avalanche. Stefano and Alessandro are staying at Camp 1 and have not been in contact for four days, according to the police.

Similarly, the police said that the condition of 54-year-old Katerina Raskova, a citizen of the Czech Republic, who went missing on Friday in a landslide at Chumanuvri-3 Nyakfedi along the Manaslu trekking route, is also unknown. She had returned from Samagaun on Kartik 12 after being unable to cross the Larke Pass due to adverse weather.  She went missing after falling into a landslide with rocks while walking on Friday. ‘There is the Badigandaki River under the avalanche, we have also searched the coastal area to see if the landslide reached the river, and the search has been going on for three days at the landslide site,’ he said.
