Tourists increase at Hampal Lake with infrastructure expansion

What you should know

With the expansion of tourism infrastructure, the number of tourists visiting Jaljala and Hampal Lake, famous religious and tourist destinations located on the border of Parbat, Myagdi, and Kaski, is increasing.

As soon as the rainy season ends, dozens of domestic and foreign tourists visit and observe the area every day.

After the establishment of a systematic hiking trail, road, hotels, and rest areas connecting Jaljala to various areas, the tourist arrival increases as soon as the tourist season begins.

A two-kilometer-long hiking trail with stone stairs has been constructed from Mate, Modi Rural Municipality-1 of Parbat to Jaljala with a budget of Rs 2 million by the Gandaki Province government. Rest areas have also been built at three places under the project run by the Tourism and Industry Office, informed Tika Pun, Secretary of the Consumers' Committee. According to him, this hiking trail has added rest areas and viewing points along with pavilions at Dulekhani and Wifidanda.

On the journey from Mate, which is at an altitude of 3,300 meters above sea level, to Jaljala, which is at an altitude of 2,000 meters, one can enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges as well as the rural settlements of Parbat, Kaski, Baglung, and Myagdi. Wild animals including deer can also be seen.

Earlier, the number of tourists was low due to the lack of a well-organized road and the problem of tourists getting lost and taking risks, but now the number of tourists has started increasing after the infrastructure has been completed from all sides, informed the committee secretary Pun.

Now, those from Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Kaski, Lamjung, Kathmandu, and Chitwan prefer to trek here. Jaljala Rural Municipality Vice-Chairman Deepak Acharya said that such tourists are coming in large numbers.

Recently, a significant number of artists and creators have been present for various music videos and film shootings. A senior cardiologist who reached Hampal Lake while trekking a few days ago said that this area is beautiful and picturesque in Nepal and responded that if it can be promoted sufficiently, millions of tourists can be brought in in the future.

This trekking route has also been used by external tourists as the Annapurna Circular Trek. Tourism entrepreneur Man Bahadur Bhandari said that after the road from Nayapul in Kaski to Ghandruk and Tikhedhunga was expanded under the Annapurna Trek, foreign tourists have started walking on this trail.

He said that a trail will be constructed from Jaljala to Mohredanda in Myagdi with an additional budget of Rs 2 million allocated by the provincial government in the current fiscal year 2082/83. Earlier, a shelter building was built at Wi-Fidanda and electricity was provided to Jaljala.

Jaljala, described as Kalanjar Parbat in the Hindu religious text Ramayana, is a place rich in biodiversity with various herbs. Religious infrastructure and promotional activities have been carried out in Hampal, while a plan has also been put forward to build an artificial lake by damming the border area between the mountains. A dirt road has also been reached to Jaljala via Mallaj and Shalija in the mountain.

Tika Pun, who has been doing hotel business in Jaljala, said that the number of tourists booking has increased daily. He estimates that the number of tourists will increase further after the festival is over.

Trekking starts from the new bridge from Bhukadeurali in Parbat to Ghandruk in Kaski. The Hampal region of Parbat is an attractive long-distance trekking route that can be reached from the same new bridge, Dimuwa in Parbat, Banau, Tare, other places in Kaski and Myagdi.

Hampal and Mate Lake, which are located at an altitude of about three thousand meters above sea level, are famous areas for trekking and where you can experience natural beauty even by riding to the higher parts.

An attractive route to reach this area, which can be reached through the Magar settlement in the Lekali region, is the trekking route that goes from Kushma Municipality-1 Pang to Banau in Jaljala Rural Municipality and connects to Kyang in Modi Rural Municipality.

After reaching Thuli Deurali in Kyang, which is a few minutes away from Banau, and parking your vehicle, you can reach the Hampal region by walking for about three hours. The destination can be reached via an easy hiking trail marked with stones from Sirfu and the surrounding areas, where some foreign tourists are also seen trekking.
