The landslide affected the traffic of West Myagdi

What you should know

The landslide in Faparkhet on the border of Beni Municipality-4 and Mangala Rural Municipality-2 has affected traffic on the Beni-Darwang road that connects the three local levels of Myagdi with the district headquarters Beni Bazar.

Since the construction of the road, which was opened before 2060, landslides occur every monsoon as soon as it rains, and the direct transport service on the 24 km Beni-Darwang road is stopped. The Beni-Darwang road that connects Mangala, Malika and Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality with Beni Bazaar is also used by the residents of Baglung's Tamankhola Rural Municipality.

Chakralal Pandey (Raju) of Mangala Rural Municipality-2 Babiachaur said that there is a problem for the local residents to move around, take the sick to the hospital, take milk, vegetables, fruits to the market, and transport daily consumables and construction materials. "Landslides fall on the vehicles moving on the narrow road causing injuries and damage to the vehicles," he said.

Three hydropower projects under construction in Myagdi river and Dandakhet Rahughat substation and development projects including transmission lines, roads, buildings, drinking water, irrigation have also been affected due to landslides. There is Myagdi river under the road and there is a big landslide on top.

Even though the Jiwis at that time prevented the erosion of the Myagdi River by building a concrete wall under the road, the efforts to control the landslide on the road failed and the investment was wasted. Infrastructure Development Office Myagdi has arranged for the removal of landslides on the road and transportation.

Gandaki Provincial Assembly member elected from Myagdi 1(2) Resham Bahadur Jugjali said that the plan to build a belay bridge by connecting Mangala Rural Municipality-3 and Ward No. 2 Simalchaur as an alternative to the risky road has been moved forward.
