A blood-eating fair has started at Marche Lake, a collective pasture area of Thasang rural municipality in Thasang Rural Municipality. Marche Yak Nak farmers group organized the fair from Thursday.
In the Himalayan and high mountain districts, the fair of eating the blood of live yak and chauri has been a tradition for centuries. It is believed that eating the blood of chaunri, which is considered as one of the natural treatment methods, cures all stomach related diseases. Sojan Hirachan, a member of the group, informed that there are 10 sheds of the Marche Yak Nak farmers group in Marche Lake, which is full of natural beauty, located at an altitude of about 4000 meters above sea level.
There is a tradition of raising yaks and chawri by going to Bensi in winter and Marche Lake in summer. About 10 houses in Lake Marche There are more than 800 yaks and chaunri. There are yak and chauri farmers' sheds under the Thak 700 area including Sauru, Sirkhum, Larjung, Naurikot and Taklung.
This lake is located at the foothills of the Nilgiris. An annual blood-drinking fair takes place in the picturesque Marche Bugin in July. During the winter, before moving the yaks and chawni to the high lake, there is a blood drinking fair in Thasang Ghate river in Baisakh.
During the dry season, there is enough green grass growing in the pastures of the high lake and the yak and chawni of the high lake consume natural herbs, so the blood is considered to be health promoting . Yak and Chawri produce Yarsagumba, Panch Aule, Niramsi, Jatamsi, Satuwa, Chichi, Bholu Chia, Kurilo, Tora Chichi, Zimbu and Bun Garlic. Locals say that because they eat plants, the blood of the body of yak and chawni solves the problems of gastritis, gonadola, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes and decreased sexual power . Sojan Hirachan, a member of the group, said that a significant number of people come to the fair to drink blood.
It is said that the fair will be held for ten days in March Bugin Lake. Buddha Gauchan, president of Marche Yak Nak Farmers Group, informed that a collective Goth Pooja was held at Marche Lake on Wednesday before the fair. This year the blood of yak and chawni has been sold at 250 rupees per glass. "This year too, like in the past, we have managed all the fairs for drinking the blood of chawri, we have also run a hotel by building tents in our barns," said Chairman Gauchan, "It is estimated that more than three hundred people will be present."
To reach Marche Lake, you have to travel uphill for about three to five hours from Beni-Jomsom main highway east of Kaligand. There are two Gorettos that can be reached from Sauru and Chimang.
